Origami Triakis Octahedron
Designed by Jo Nakashima (05/2021)
In geometry, a triakis octahedron (or trigonal trisoctahedron or kisoctahedron) is an Archimedean dual solid, or a Catalan solid. It’s an octahedron with triangular pyramids added to each face.
This is a modular origami and the units are the same from my Excavated Dodecahedron. As a result, all the faces of this model are also equilateral triangles. You can make it with or without the color changed edges on the base of the pyramids, depending on which side of the unit you use.
You can use the same unit to build other figures like the Triakis Tetrahedron, Tetrakis Hexahedron, Triakis Icosahedron, and Pentakis Dodecahedron.
Paper
This is a modular origami and you’ll need only 12 square sheets of paper. Standard origami paper works well and I recommend 7.5cm x 7.5cm square. Everything is well connected without glue. In the video tutorial I’m using Copper tissue-foil from origami-shop.
