Origami Goose

How to make an origami goose
Designed by Jo Nakashima (02/2022)

After playing Untitled Goose Game I had to make an origami goose! This model a variation of my origami Duck. The steps are the same until 20m50s.

The beak can be opened the same way as in the origami duck, but I prefer it closed because it looks cuter and it can also hold the knife.

The step at 27m28s looks useless and not very elegant, but it was necessary to avoid ripping the paper while making the reverse fold of the head with too many layers pressuring the middle.

See also the origami knife and ribbon, two very popular items from the game.

Origami Knife/Sword

How to make an origami knife/sword
Designed by Jo Nakashima (02/2022)

This is a very simple model made for the origami goose to make the meme “peace was never an option”. You can easily make a sword using a longer rectangle.

Diagrams

The first step doesn’t have a reference point: it will be the size you want for the handle of the knife/sword. Start with a rectangle with ratio 1:2 for a knife or longer for a sword (I suggest 1:8 for a sword, but the exact ratio doesn’t really matter).

If you wanna make a knife/sword with precise measurements, then:
paper length= blade length+2x handle length
paper width = 4x model width

Origami Duck

How to make an origami duck
Designed by Jo Nakashima (01/2022)

In this video you’ll learn how to make an origami Duck. This model was based on my old duck and flamingo. From the old duck I copied only the idea to make the beak color change, but it also worked nicely to provide some extra paper to make the flat feet. The body is the same from the Flamingo, which I liked a lot because it’s well locked and has a nice shape.

Designed By Jo Nakashima (10/2021)
Difficulty level: low intermediate

In this tutorial you’ll learn how to make an origami Flamingo step by step. There are 2 methods to shape the neck: curves and reverse folds (you can see both in the beginning, but I made a separate short video only for the curved version). Since this model can’t stand by itself, I also included a simple origami stand in the end of the video.

Difficulty level: low intermediate

Learn how to make my origami Chameleon, it is super cute and not hard to fold! Standard 15cm x 15cm origami paper works very well for this model. Optionally, you can shape the tail with reverse folds to make the curl or make it straight. The color changing requires the magic of video editing.

If you like this origami chameleon, see also my origami Fish made from the same base!

Origami Sun

Origami Sun designed by Jo Nakashima (2010+2021)
Difficulty level: intermediate

My origami Sun was originally created in 2010. There were flaws in the design and the video quality was awful. Recently I decided to fold it again and managed to make a very nice improvement by locking the layers and also a better folding sequence.

Origami Horse

How to make an origami Horse
Designed by Jo Nakashima (12/jul/2014 + nov/2019)
Difficulty level: complex

This model was first designed in 2014, but this is an updated version with some “bug fixes” (legs are properly locked). It is a variation of my origami Unicorn, just hiding the horn. The steps are the same until 31 minutes of the video tutorial (step 68 on the diagrams).

The biggest flaw of the old version is that the legs and layers of the body would spread open after a while. This could be solved using foil paper or the wet folding technique, but in my opinion a good design should hold the shape well even with normal paper. So, to solve this problem, I’ve made some locks on the legs similar to the hind legs of my origami Reindeer. Additionally, I rearranged some layers on the crimp fold of the neck and added some locks inside the body too.

Triakis Octahedron

Origami Triakis Octahedron
Designed by Jo Nakashima (05/2021)

In geometry, a triakis octahedron (or trigonal trisoctahedron or kisoctahedron) is an Archimedean dual solid, or a Catalan solid. It’s an octahedron with triangular pyramids added to each face.

This is a modular origami and the units are the same from my Excavated Dodecahedron. As a result, all the faces of this model are also equilateral triangles. You can make it with or without the color changed edges on the base of the pyramids, depending on which side of the unit you use.

You can use the same unit to build other figures like the Triakis Tetrahedron, Tetrakis HexahedronTriakis Icosahedron, and Pentakis Dodecahedron.

Paper

This is a modular origami and you’ll need only 12 square sheets of paper. Standard origami paper works well and I recommend 7.5cm x 7.5cm square. Everything is well connected without glue. In the video tutorial I’m using Copper tissue-foil from origami-shop.

In geometry, a tetrakis hexahedron (also known as a tetrahexahedron, hextetrahedron, tetrakis cube, and kiscube) is a Catalan solid. It’s a cube with square pyramids augmented to each face.

This is a modular origami and the units are the same from my Excavated Dodecahedron. As a result, all the faces of this model are also equilateral triangles. You can make it with or without the color changed edges on the base of the pyramids, depending on which side of the unit you use.

Pentakis Dodecahedron

Origami Pentakis Dodecahedron
Designed by Jo Nakashima (05/2021)

In geometry, a pentakis dodecahedron or kisdodecahedron is the polyhedron created by attaching a pentagonal pyramid to each face of a regular dodecahedron. So, the finished figure has 12×5=60 triangular faces and It’s a good approximation to an origami ball.

This is a modular origami and the units are the same from my Excavated Dodecahedron. The assembly is also the same, except that the pyramids are convex instead of concave. You can make it with or without the color changed edges depending on which side of the unit you use. You can use the same unit to build other figures like the triakis icosahedron and more.

We can describe the Triakis Icosahedron as an icosahedron with triangular pyramids augmented to each face. So, it is a star with 20 points, 60 equilateral triangles. This is a modular origami and the units are the same from my Excavated Dodecahedron. You can make it with or without the color changed edges on the base of the pyramids, depending on which side of the unit you use.

In geometry, the excavated dodecahedron is a star polyhedron that looks like a dodecahedron with concave pentagonal pyramids in place of its faces. This is a modular origami and the units are similar to my origami Dodecahedron, but with different angles (60º instead of 54º) to make equilateral triangles. You can make it with or without the color changed edges depending on which side of the unit you use.

You can use the same unit to build other figures like the triakis icosahedron.

This is my last platonic solid. Learn how to make all the other ones: cube, tetrahedron, octahedron and icosahedron.

Paper

This is a modular origami and you’ll need 30 square sheets of paper. Standard origami paper works well and I recommend small sizes like 7.5cm x 7.5cm square (the finished model will be about 6.5cm tall). Everything is well connected without glue.

Origami Monkey

Learn how to make an origami monkey.
Designed by Jo Nakashima (25/Feb/2016).

I came up with this model after creating the origami Mr. Heart because some of the intermediary steps resemble a monkey face.

In this video I’m using 15cm x 15cm Kraft paper. Standard origami paper works as well. I don’t recommend thick paper for this model.
